Introduction
Performance
evaluation is very important to improve company performance. performance evaluation is a process used by organizations to
assess how well employees are performing in their roles. It involves reviewing
an employee’s work, behavior, and achievements to see if they meet the
company’s expectations and goals. The goal of performance evaluation is to
provide feedback, identify areas for improvement, and recognize accomplishments. It’s a chance to understand their strengths and weaknesses,
while for employers, it helps guide decisions about promotions, raises,
training, or other development needs. Overall, performance evaluation helps
ensure that both employees and the company grow and succeed together.
There are several advantages because
of employee performance evaluation.
- Feedback and Development.
Performance evaluations offer employees valuable feedback on
their strengths and areas for improvements, aiding their professional development.
Based on feedback the management can be decided required training variety for each
employee (Levine and Butler,1952).
- Goal Alignment.
The employees’ work needs
to be aligned with organizational goals and objectives.
- Performance improvement.
By identifying areas
needing improvement, organizations can implement strategies to enhance employee
performance.
- Recognition and Motivation.
Recognizing employee achievements
and contributions can boost morale and motivation.
- Documentation.
Performance evaluations provide a formal record of an employee’s performance, which can be useful for decisions related to promotions, raises, and terminations.
Types of Evaluations.
- Self-Evaluation.
Employees assess their
own performance against set goals (Ferguson,1947).
- Manager led review
A supervisor conducts
the evaluations (Ferguson,1947).
- Peer review.
Colleagues provide
feedback on an employee’s performance.
- 360-degree feedback.
Feedback is gathered
from multiple sources, including managers, peers, subordinates and customers (DeNisi
& Kluger,2000).
Conclusion.
Employees should have a clear understanding of their roles, responsibilities
and performance expectations. Also providing ongoing feedback, not just during
formal evaluations, can help employees stay on track and make necessary adjustments.
The feedback should be specific, constructive and developed rather than solely focus
on shortcomings. The evaluation process should be fair, consistent and unbiased.
The records should be maintained for performance evaluations to track progress
and make informed decisions. Employee involvement is very important to
encourage them for evaluation process, allowing them to share their perspectives
and contribute to their own development.
An organization’s overall performance can be increased by the
planned employee’s performance evaluation process. This is also considered as a
continual improvement of the HRM side. With the company’s overall performance increasing,
the employees’ satisfaction can be raised because of the high salary, work life
balance, self-satisfaction, promotion. Therefore, employee performance
evaluation is very important for employer as same as employees.
